Download & Installation Questions

Is it safe to load an unpacked Chrome extension?
Yes, if you trust the source. My API Sider's source code is open and transparent — you can inspect every file before loading it. The extension only requests permissions it genuinely needs (storage for chat history, host access to make API calls). Loading unpacked extensions is perfectly safe when the source is known and trusted, as is the case here.
Will my API key be shared with anyone when I use the extension?
Absolutely not. Your API keys are stored locally in Chrome's sandboxed extension storage and used only to make requests directly to your chosen AI provider. They are never sent to our servers — we do not have a server that receives your requests. The only entity that sees your API key in transit is the AI provider you are calling (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).
What happens if I lose or delete the extension folder?
Your chat history and API profile data are stored in Chrome's local extension storage. If you delete and reinstall the extension, Chrome may clear this data depending on your Chrome profile settings. We recommend keeping your extension folder in a safe location and not deleting it unless you are intentionally uninstalling. Your API keys themselves (from providers like OpenAI) remain valid regardless — you would just need to re-enter them in a fresh installation.
